The Opportunity
We’re looking for a founding technical leader to own the scientific roadmap for our soft magnetic materials platform. You’ll take this technology from development through pilot-scale validation, build the R&D team, and work at the intersection of fundamental materials science and commercial power electronics. This is a rare chance to shape a new class of magnetic material from the ground up.
What You’ll Do
- Define and own the materials science roadmap, from fundamental physics through engineered soft magnetic cores to pilot-scale production
- Lead development of soft magnetic materials for high-frequency power electronics
- Own characterization, loss modeling, and performance data processing
- Collaborate with power electronics engineering and customers on real-world specifications
- Interface with partners and government agencies; lead federal R&D proposals
- Build and mentor a growing R&D team
What You Bring
- PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Hands-on experience with materials characterization (VSM, B-H analyzers, impedance)
- Background in materials processing – including powder synthesis, compaction, heat treatment, or thin-film deposition – relevant to magnetic or functional ceramic materials
- Expertise in soft magnetic materials and loss mechanisms
- Publication or patent track record in materials science
What Sets You Apart
- Startup or national lab commercialization experience
- Industry experience and relationships in magnetics or power electronics
- Federal R&D proposal experience (NSF, DOE, ARPA-E)
- Experience collaborating across institutions on joint R&D proposals, grant applications, or multi-party technical programs
